Time 1h20m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup tomato paste
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 lbs ground beef (sirloin is great)
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Boil tomato paste, BBQ sauce, and sugar in a saucepan. Once it boils remove from heat.
  • In a large bowl, add the meat, egg and 1/4 cup of the sauce.
  • Mix well with your hands.
  • Add the breadcrumbs, salt, onion powder, pepper, garlic powder to the meat and use your hands to mix well.
  • Place the meat mixture into a loaf pan. (I like the 2 piece kind that drains the fat.).
  • Place the remaining sauce on top of the meatloaf.
  • Bake meatloaf for one hour and let rest before slicing.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground beef: Use a combination of ground chuck and ground sirloin for a flavorful and juicy meatloaf.
  • Add moisture: Incorporate ingredients like bread crumbs, eggs, and milk to help keep the meatloaf moist during baking.
  • Season generously: Use a variety of herbs and spices to flavor the meatloaf, such as garlic, onion, paprika, thyme, and oregano.
  • Don't overmix: Overmixing the meatloaf mixture can make it tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Shape it properly: Form the meatloaf mixture into an oval loaf and place it in a baking dish. Make sure the loaf is not too thick, or it will not cook evenly.
  • Cook at the right temperature: Bake the meatloaf at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the center reads 160°F (70°C).
  • Let it rest: After baking, let the meatloaf rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the loaf.
