Tips:
- Choose the right beans: Dried beans are best for this recipe, as they hold their shape better than canned beans. Great Northern beans or pinto beans are commonly used for slow cooker bean recipes.
- Soak the beans overnight: Soaking the beans overnight helps to soften them and reduce the cooking time. If you forget to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 2-3 minutes, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
- Use a flavorful broth: The broth you use to cook the beans will add a lot of flavor to the dish. Use a rich, flavorful broth, such as chicken broth, beef broth, or vegetable broth.
- Add your favorite seasonings: This recipe is a great opportunity to add your favorite seasonings. Some popular choices include chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
- Don't overcook the beans: Overcooked beans will become mushy and lose their flavor. Cook the beans until they are tender but still hold their shape.
