Best Pizza Sauce Recipe (No Cook, Authentic Italian Style) image

The best and easiest Italian pizza sauce recipe.

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 6

14 oz (400g) can of European tomatoes (preferably pomodoro pelato S.Marzano dell'Agro Sarnese-Nocerino D.O.P) THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT-do not use inferior quality tomatoes
3 Tbsp good quality extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tsp sea salt
a few pinches of dried oregano
2 or 3 leaves of fresh Italian basil, torn into small pieces
(optional: a clove of fresh garlic, minced) my Italian family uses garlic, but it's only used on one type of pizza in Naples

Steps:

  • Pour the can of tomatoes into a bowl. If it is pomodorini or whole tomatoes, crush them with your hands, or you can roughly cut them with kitchen shears.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Taste for salt and add if needed. (Don't add a lot of sauce to the pizza dough; you don't want to drown it.)

HOMEMADE PIZZA SAUCE FROM SCRATCH

Homemade Pizza Sauce from Scratch image

I noticed that most (all?) the pizza sauce recipes call for either tomato paste or tomato sauce or both. I wanted to do it from scratch! So I experimented until I got it right. This is much better than the store-bought sauce with none of those nasty preservatives.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the sauce will taste. Use ripe tomatoes, fresh garlic, and herbs.
  • Don't overcook the sauce: Simmer the sauce for just long enough to thicken and develop flavor, but don't let it boil. Overcooked sauce will lose its flavor and become bland.
  • Season the sauce to taste: Add salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste. You can also add a pinch of sugar to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes.
  • Let the sauce cool before using: This will allow the flavors to develop and meld together. You can also store the sauce in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze it for up to 3 months.
  • Use the sauce on your favorite pizza: Homemade pizza sauce is the perfect way to top a delicious homemade pizza. You can also use it on pasta, sandwiches, or as a dipping sauce for breadsticks.

Conclusion:

Making homemade pizza sauce is a great way to add flavor and authenticity to your favorite pizza recipes. With just a few simple ingredients and a little time, you can create a delicious sauce that will impress your family and friends. So next time you're making pizza, skip the store-bought sauce and make your own instead. You won't be disappointed!
