Yield 3 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 10

3/4 cup butter, softened,
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar,
1 egg,
1 teaspoon vanilla,
2 cups all-purpose flour,
slivered almonds for garnish,
1/4 cup butter,
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar,
1 teaspoon vanilla,
3 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter. Gradually add brown sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; blend well at low speed. Gradually blend in flour at low speed until a stiff dough forms. Chill dough for easier handling if desired. Shape dough into balls about the size of marbles. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Flatten each to the size of a half-dollar with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 7-9 minutes until golden brown. Cool. Frost with Browned Butter Frosting. Garnish with slivered almonds. To make Browned Butter Frosting: In medium saucepan, brown 1/4 cup butter. Remove from heat; blend in powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and enough milk until thick enough to spread.

Tips:

  • Choose the right butter. Use unsalted butter for most recipes, as salted butter can make your dishes too salty. If you only have salted butter on hand, reduce the amount of salt called for in the recipe.
  • Use room temperature butter. Softened butter is easier to mix and spread, and it will help your baked goods turn out light and fluffy. To soften butter quickly, microwave it on low power for 10-15 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until it is softened but not melted.
  • Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This step is important for creating a smooth, even texture in your baked goods. Cream the butter and sugar together for at least 2 minutes, or until the mixture is pale yellow and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time. Adding the eggs one at a time will help prevent the batter from curdling. Beat each egg into the batter until it is completely combined before adding the next one.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing the batter can make your baked goods tough. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined. If you are using a mixer, mix on low speed.
  • Bake at the right temperature. The temperature of your oven can affect the texture and flavor of your baked goods. Make sure to preheat your oven to the correct temperature before baking.
  • Let your baked goods cool completely before frosting or icing them. This will help prevent the frosting or icing from melting.

Conclusion:

Butter is a delicious and versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of recipes. By following these tips, you can use butter to create delicious baked goods, sauces, and other dishes. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced baker, these tips will help you make the most of this essential ingredient.
