These are from Sally Grosserode. Very old recipe. They have coconut and nuts too. I have made this recipe. It is wicked good. The batter is loose when you put it over the pressed mixture. It is very rich, almost candy bar like. Try this recipe; you will like it.

Number Of Ingredients 15

1/2 cup butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup nuts
1/2 cup coconut
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon milk

Steps:

  • Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar.
  • Add flour. Divide in 1/2.
  • To the first half add nuts and coconut.
  • Press into the bottom of a 9x13 pan; set aside.
  • Combine egg, salt, cinnamon, baking powder, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  • Spread over first layer.
  • Bake in 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 45 minutes.
  • While still warm frost with thin icing.

2 c all purpose flour
1 1/4 c white sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1/2 c chopped nuts (i used pecans)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp salt
1 c buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
GLAZE
2 c powdered sugar
4 Tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350. In a large mixing, combine flour, sugars and butter. Mix at low speed until crumbled well.
  • 2. Press 2 cups of mixture into ungreased 9x13 baking pan. To remaining crumb mixture add your nuts, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, buttermilk, vanilla and egg and blend well. Pour evenly over crumb crust.
  • 3. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and tests done in the center with toothpick.
  • 4. To make glaze-blend all ingredients until smooth. streusel glaze all around the surface of the bars. Cut into bars and serve after they have cooled a bit.
