CAMPFIRE COFFEE CAN CASSEROLE

Campfire Coffee Can Casserole image

This came from a kids cookbook so it's really easy. If you don't want to, you don't even have to wash the casserole pan when this is gone. You can make this an indoor recipe by cooking it at 350F in a casserole dish in the oven for an hour or so.

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 1h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 lb ground beef
4 small potatoes
4 small carrots
2 small onions
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Peel the potatoes and carrots with a vegetable peeler, and grate them or cut them into really thin slices.
  • Remove the skins from the onions and cut them into really thin slices.
  • Make four layers in a clean 3 lb coffee can, starting with the ground beef, add the onions, then the potatoes, then the carrots, sprinkling each layer very lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and set in or on the campfire.
  • Cook 30-60 minutes depending on how hot your fire is.

Tips:

  • Choose the right Dutch oven. A 12-inch Dutch oven is a good size for most campfire casseroles. Make sure it has a tight-fitting lid to keep the heat in.
  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the casserole will taste. Use fresh vegetables, lean meats, and flavorful cheeses.
  • Don't overcrowd the Dutch oven. Leave some space between the ingredients so they can cook evenly.
  • Cook over a low fire. A low fire will help the casserole cook evenly without burning.
  • Be patient. Campfire casseroles take longer to cook than casseroles cooked in the oven. Be patient and let the casserole cook until it is heated through.

Conclusion:

Campfire casseroles are a delicious and easy way to feed a crowd when you're camping. With a little planning and preparation, you can create a hearty and flavorful meal that everyone will enjoy. So next time you're camping, be sure to try one of these campfire casserole recipes. You won't be disappointed!
