- Spread batter evenly in baking pan and bake in middle of oven until a tester comes out clean, 50 minutes to 1 hour. Cool in pan on a rack 15 minutes. Carefully lift date mixture out of pan using foil overhang and transfer to a cutting board. Cut into 1-inch squares and peel from foil.
- Toss warm squares a few at a time in confectioners sugar, then transfer to a rack to cool completely. Sprinkle with more confectioners sugar just before serving.

Tips for Making Canadian Date Squares:
- Use a food processor to quickly and easily combine the ingredients for the oat crumb base. - If you don't have a food processor, you can mix the ingredients together in a large bowl using a fork or your hands. - Be sure to press the oat crumb mixture firmly into the bottom of the pan so that it forms a solid base for the date filling. - When making the date filling, be sure to pit the dates before chopping them. You can use a sharp knife or a pair of kitchen scissors to do this. - If you want a smoother date filling, you can puree the dates in a food processor or blender before adding them to the saucepan. - Be sure to bring the date filling to a boil before reducing the heat to low and simmering for 10 minutes. This will help to thicken the filling and prevent it from being too runny. - When the date filling has thickened, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. - Pour the date filling over the oat crumb base and spread it out evenly. - Bake the date squares for 20-25 minutes, or until the oat crumb base is golden brown and the date filling is set. - Let the date squares cool completely before cutting them into bars. - For a neater cut, use a sharp knife that has been dipped in hot water and wiped dry. Conclusion:
With their delicious combination of sweet dates, crunchy oat crumb base, and creamy caramel topping, Canadian date squares are a classic dessert that is sure to please everyone. They are easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you are serving them at a potluck, a bake sale, or a family gathering, Canadian date squares are sure to be a hit.
