Tips:

  • To make sure your caramel is cooked to the right temperature, use a candy thermometer to measure its temperature. It should reach 248 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you don't have a candy thermometer, you can also do the cold water test. Drop a small amount of caramel into a bowl of cold water. If it forms a hard ball, it is ready.
  • Be careful not to overcook the caramel, as it will become too hard and brittle.
  • Work quickly when adding the popcorn, pretzels, and nuts to the caramel, as it will start to harden quickly.
  • Spread the caramel popcorn mixture out on a baking sheet and let it cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
  • Store the caramel popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature.
