SWEET TART WALDORF APPLE SALAD

Sweet Tart Waldorf Apple Salad image

This salad is a combination of a fruit dip recipe I learned last week and an apple salad I saw in the grocery store. It was enough inspiration to come up with this delicious recipe for our cook-out this afternoon! I have two boys and a daycare and would recommend this recipe as super-simple to make with kids. Children love chopping apples (even littles can do this with a butter knife) and mixing the dressing. I used ¾ of my dressing and reserved the rest to use as fruit dip later.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples. Granny Smith apples are a classic choice for Waldorf salad because they hold their shape well and have a tart flavor that complements the other ingredients. However, you can use any type of apple you like. Some other good options include Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Pink Lady apples.
  • Use fresh, crunchy celery. Celery adds a nice crunch to Waldorf salad. Make sure to use fresh celery that is not wilted or limp.
  • Don't over-dress the salad. Waldorf salad is best when the dressing is light and flavorful. A simple vinaigrette made with olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper is all you need.
  • Serve the salad immediately. Waldorf salad is best when it is served fresh. The apples and celery will start to wilt if the salad sits for too long.

Conclusion:

Waldorf salad is a classic salad that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal preferences. Whether you like it with apples, celery, walnuts, or grapes, Waldorf salad is a delicious and refreshing salad that is sure to please everyone at your table.
