1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 yellow onion, chopped
2 cups sliced and quartered pepperoni
16 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 (32 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 cup rigatoni pasta
1 cup rotini pasta
1 cup macaroni
1 pound ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, combine green pepper, onion, pepperoni, mushrooms, tomato paste, spaghetti sauce, and garlic. Cover, and simmer for one hour.
  • Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook pasta in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes, or until al dente; drain.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Mix together pasta, ricotta, 1 1/2 cups mozzarella, and Parmesan. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, alternate pasta and cheese mixture and sauce mixture, ending with sauce. Top with remaining mozzarella.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Steps:

  • Cook noodles according to box directions.

2 medium onions, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
6 garlic cloves, minced
4 cups water
1 can (12 ounces) tomato paste
1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
1 package (3-1/2 ounces) sliced pepperoni
2 envelopes spaghetti sauce mix
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
PASTA:
8 cups water
1 cup each uncooked elbow macaroni, bow tie pasta and medium pasta shells
2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • In a Dutch oven, cook the beef, onions and pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Stir in the water, tomato paste, mushrooms, pepperoni, sauce mix and Italian seasoning. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 1 hour., Meanwhile, for pasta, bring water to a boil in a large saucepan. Add macaroni and pastas. Return to a boil, stirring occasionally. 5 roma (plum) tomatoes, chopped
½ cup freshly grated Asiago cheese

1 lb ground beef
2 links sweet or hot italian sausage, removed from casing
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
4 clove garlic, minced
7 oz package, sliced pepperoni - halved ( all but about 15 slices ) )
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 1/2 tsp italian seasoning or 1 tsp basil, 1/2 tsp oregano
2 - 24 oz spaghetti sauce
1 - 6 oz tomato paste
3/4 c water (optional)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
5 - 6 c pastas ( i used two cups of each - rigatoni, penne, cavatappi ) prepared as to manufacturers instructions ( not quite al dente )
30 oz ricotta cheese
2 c shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 c grated parmesan cheese
1 - 8 oz package, mozzarella cheese slices
PREP TIME INCLUDES THE TIME IT TAKES TO SIMMER SAUCE

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Spray a 9 x 13 or larger deep dish casserole pan with non stick cooking spray. Set aside. Prepare pasta, not quite al dente.
  • 2. In a large skillet, add 2 - 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Over medium heat, combine ground beef, sausage, pepperoni, onion, green pepper, garlic and seasonings until vegetables are tender and beef, sausage are cooked through. Drain; return to pan.
  • 3. Now, stir in the tomato paste.
  • 4. Add the sauce and brown sugar. Cover and simmer for 30 - 40 minutes. Stirring occasionally(If getting too thick; stir in the 1/2 - 3/4 cup water to thin out, you don't want the sauce too thin, but not too thick either.)
  • 5. In a large bowl; mix together cooked / drained pasta, ricotta, 2 cups mozzarella, and Parmesan.
  • 6. In prepared baking dish or pan; coat bottom with about 1 cup sauce. Now, add about 3 cups pasta/cheese mixture. Spread evenly.
  • 7. Now, add 2 - 2 1/2 cups meat sauce; spread evenly.
  • 8. Repeat layers, ending with sauce.
  • 9. Place the mozzarella slices evenly on top of the sauce. I then placed the saved pepperoni on top of the cheese. Optional Bake the Cavatini 30 - 45 minutes, or until browning and bubbly.
  • 10. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
  • 11. I served this with a tossed salad, and crusty Italian bread. Tastes like lasagna, but without the fuss...delish!!!

1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 pkg spaghetti sauce seasoning mix
1 large pepperoni stick, sliced
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
1/2 c each- 3 different types of pasta (shells, wheels, etc.)
15 oz can tomato sauce
1 c water
6 oz cheddar cheese, grated
6 oz mozzarella cheese, grated
PREHEAT OVEN TO 350 DEGREES

Steps:

  • 1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef with the onion and peppers. Drain excess liquid and reserve. Add spaghetti seasoning to browned meat and blend. Add pepperoni and mushrooms and blend again.
  • 2. Meanwhile prepare pasta. Drain and add to ground beef mixture in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Add tomato sauce and water; stir to combine. Add most of the cheese and stir again. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.

8 oz wagon wheel pasta
8 oz rotini pasta
8 oz sliced pepperoni
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small can sliced black olives
1 large jar spaghetti sauce (i use prego or barilla)
1 small can sliced mushrooms
1 lb italian sausage
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 large shredded italian blend cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Cook and drain pasta. In a large skillet, brown Italian sausage then drain off fat. Add green pepper, onion, mushrooms and red pepper flakes and cook 5 minutes. Add black olives and pepperoni. Stir in spaghetti sauce. Add mixture to cooked pasta. Place in a large casserole dish sprayed with cooking spray. Top with shredded cheese and bake for 35-40 minutes until hot and bubbly. Serve with garlic bread or bread sticks.

3 types of pasta (regular or whole wheat), 1 cup each.
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
15 1/2 oz spaghetti sauce
6 oz pepperoni
1 pkg mozz. cheese
1 container of cottage cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Brown beef, onions and peppers. Cook until onions are clear, drain. While beef is cooking cook the pasta.
  • 2. Once the beef is browned, add the spaghetti sauce and the pepperoni. Drain pasta and mix with meat sauce.
  • 3. Mix mozz. cheese and cottage cheese together.

1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion
1 medium green pepper
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package pepperoni
1 (15 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup rigatoni pasta
1/2 cup macaroni
1/2 rotini pasta
1 (8 ounce) carton cottage cheese
1 (10 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Chop the onion and green pepper.Cook pastas together; drain well.Saute beef, onion, and green pepper until beef is no longer pink and vegetables are soft. Add the pepperoni and heat thoroughly. Drain excess grease.Add spaghetti sauce and simmer 5 minutes. Spray a 3-qt casserole with cooking spray. Put 1/2 of the pasta in the casserole. Spoon 1/2 of the meat sauce mixture over the pasta. Spoon the container of cottage cheese over the sauce. Sprinkle with 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese. Top with the remaining pasta, then sauce, then mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

My husband's aunt gave us this recipe, which I believe she found in the Wisconsin State Journal several years ago. This recipe makes 2 large pans, so it's great for feeding a crowd! I also love to make it and freeze one pan for later use~ it freezes VERY well!

1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground mild pork sausage or pork pizza sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
3 1/2 oz pkg. pepperoni slices, chopped
28 oz can crushed tomatoes
26 1/2 oz jar spaghetti sauce
16 oz jar mild salsa
4 oz can sliced mushrooms, drained
10 oz pkg. pepperoncini peppers, drained and sliced
16 oz medium shell pasta, cooked
1 c grated parmesan cheese, divided
4 c shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Steps:

  • 1. Cook ground beef, pork, onion, and green pepper in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring until meat browns and crumbles. Drain well; set aside.
  • 2. Combine pepperoni, crushed tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, salsa, mushrooms, and pepperoncinis in a large bowl. Mix together. Stir in meat mixture and cooked pasta.
  • 3. Spoon half of mixture into 2 lightly greased 11x7 inch baking dishes. Sprinkle EACH pan with 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Top with remaining pasta mixture.
  • 4. Bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until heated through. Top with remaining cheeses, as done before. Bake an additional 5-10 minutes, until chees is melted.
  • 5. NOTE: Unbaked casseroles may be frozen up to 3 months (freeze topping cheeses separately). Thaw in refrigerator 24 hours; let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, sprinkle with cheeses, bake an additional 5-10 minutes. Also, I have used two 9x13 inch pans. Your layers will just be spread much thinner.

1 bag of spiral noodles
1 bag of rigatoni noodles
1/2 lb pork sausage
1/2 lb hamburger meat
2 bags of mozzerella
1 lb pepperoni
1 large jar of spaghetti sauce with mushrooms
2 can(s) 8 oz cans of tomato sauce
salt, pepper and garlic salt to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Boil noodles as directed on package...can boil together. Brown meats together. When noodles and meats are done, mix all ingredients, except the cheese, and pour into a large casserole dish. Cover with the cheese and bake at 350 until cheese is melted and lightly browned.

Tips:

  • Use a large pot to cook the pasta so that it has plenty of room to move around and cook evenly.
  • Salting the pasta water helps to flavor the pasta and prevents it from sticking together.
  • Cook the pasta according to the package directions, but taste it a few minutes before the recommended cooking time is up to make sure it is cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Drain the pasta in a colander and rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  • Use a variety of fresh, seasonal vegetables in your cavatini recipes.
