CHOCOLATE COVERED TWINKIES ON A STICK

Chocolate Covered Twinkies on a Stick image

This is an original creation that I came up with a few years back. If you like twinkies, you are gonna love this recipe. The preparation time includes freezing time. Note: I am not sure if the ounce size on the box of twinkies is correct, but it's the 10 pack.

Time 2h

Yield 10 Twinkies, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (24 ounce) box Hostess Twinkies (they come in a 10 pack)
1 (16 ounce) package white candy coating (your choice) or 1 (16 ounce) package dark chocolate confectionary coating (your choice)
10 candy apple sticks
chopped Oreo cookies or drizzle with chocolate

Steps:

  • Unwrap twinkies and place a candy apple stick into each one so it looks like a popsicle.
  • Place each on a waxed paper lined cookie sheet and freeze until firm.
  • Melt the chocolate on top of a double boiler or in the microwave until smooth.
  • Dip twinkies, one at a time, coating completely and returning to waxed paper. Top with desired topping before the chocolate dries (that is why it important to do one at a time).
  • Continue until all are dipped and decorated.
  • Allow to dry completely before wrapping or serving.
  • Note: if you have chocolate left you can save it for another use or dip something else you may have on hand like pretzels, oreos or marshmallows.

DEEP-FRIED TWINKIES RECIPE - (4.1/5)

Number Of Ingredients 15

TWINKIES:
6 Twinkies
Popsicle sticks
4 cups vegetable oil
Flour for dusting
BATTER:
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 Tablespoon oil
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
BERRY SAUCE:
1 jar (10-ounce) seedless raspberry preserves
1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries

Steps:

  • TWINKIES: Chill or freeze Twinkies for several hours or overnight. Heat 4 cups vegetable oil in deep fryer to about 375°F. BATTER: Mix together milk, vinegar and oil. In another bowl, blend flour, baking powder and salt. Whisk wet ingredients into dry and continue mixing until smooth. Refrigerate while oil heats. Push stick into Twinkie lengthwise, leaving about 2 inches to use as a handle, dust with flour and dip into the batter. Rotate Twinkie until batter covers entire cake. Place carefully in hot oil. The Twinkie will float, so hold it under with a utensil to ensure even browning. It should turn golden in 3 to 4 minutes. Depending on the size of your deep fryer, you might be able to fry only one at a time, two at the most. Remove Twinkie to paper towel and let drain. Remove stick and allow Twinkie to sit for about 5 minutes before serving. Variation: Slice Twinkie into 4 pieces. Flour and batter each before frying. With this treatment, one Twinkie will serve two people if accompanied by a sauce. SAUCE: In a saucepan, heat preserves over low heat until melted. Add 1 cup of fresh or frozen mixed berries. Heat until sauce just simmers. Cover; refrigerate until served. Makes 1 1/2 cups.

Tips:

  • Use a deep fryer or large saucepan for frying the Twinkies. This will help ensure that they are evenly cooked and golden brown.
  • Make sure the oil is hot enough before adding the Twinkies. If the oil is not hot enough, the Twinkies will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
  • Do not overcrowd the fryer or saucepan. If you add too many Twinkies at once, they will not cook evenly.
  • Fry the Twinkies for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Be careful not to overcook them, or they will become dry and tough.
  • Drain the Twinkies on paper towels to remove any excess oil.
  • Dip the Twinkies in melted chocolate and then roll them in sprinkles, chopped nuts, or other toppings.

Conclusion:

Chocolate-coated deep-fried Twinkies are a delicious and unique treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be customized with your favorite toppings. Whether you are serving them at a party or enjoying them as a special snack, chocolate-coated deep-fried Twinkies are sure to be a hit.
