OATMEAL DROP COOKIES

Oatmeal Drop Cookies image

My grandmother made this for us when I was very young. Back to the basics. No fancy ingredients, and it turns out great. She got this recipe from her mother, my great grandmother and I got it from her. My great grandmother lived to be 102 & 1/2 years old. This was one of her favorite treats that she ate often. It also brings back good memories just to make this recipe. Four generations still enjoy this.

Tips:

  • Use rolled oats for a heartier texture and more fiber. Quick oats will also work, but they will result in a softer cookie.
  • Be sure to measure your flour correctly. Too much flour will result in a dry cookie.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will result in a tough cookie.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the cookies hold their shape.
  • Bake the cookies until they are just set. Overbaking will result in a dry cookie.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before enjoying them. This will help them firm up and develop their full flavor.
