Categories     Afternoon tea, Treat

Time 32m

Yield Makes 25

Number Of Ingredients 5

225g butter, softened
110g caster sugar
275g plain flour
1 tsp cinnamon or other spices (optional)
75g white or milk chocolate chips (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Cream the butter in a large bowl with a wooden spoon or in a stand mixer until it is soft. Add the sugar and keep beating until the mixture is light and fluffy. Sift in the flour and add the optional ingredients, if you're using them. Bring the mixture together with your hands in a figure-of-eight motion until it forms a dough. You can freeze the dough at this point.
  • Roll the dough into walnut-sized balls and place them slightly apart from each other on a baking sheet (you don't need to butter or line it). Flatten the balls a little with the palm of your hand and bake them in the oven for around 10-12 mins until they are golden brown and slightly firm on top. Leave the cookies on a cooling rack for around 15 mins before serving.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the cookies will taste. This means using real butter, sugar, flour, and eggs.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will help to incorporate air into the batter, which will make the cookies lighter and more tender.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing can make the cookies tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the dough before baking: This will help to prevent the cookies from spreading too much in the oven.
  • Bake the cookies at the correct temperature: The temperature will vary depending on the recipe, so be sure to check the recipe carefully.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before frosting or decorating: This will help to prevent the frosting or decorations from melting.

Conclusion:

With so many delicious cookie recipes to choose from, you're sure to find one that you love. Whether you prefer classic chocolate chip cookies, chewy oatmeal cookies, or soft and fluffy sugar cookies, there's a recipe out there for everyone. So get baking and enjoy the sweet taste of homemade cookies!
