CRAB BOATS

This is absolutely wonderful. I changed the recipe to smaller slices of French bread and spread the crab filling on the top. Heat and serve as appetizer or with a soup for lunch.

Categories     Crab

Time 20m

Yield 25 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cans crabmeat, minced
8 ounces American cheese, shredded
1 onion, chopped fine
mayonnaise, to bind
1 loaf French bread (or two small loaves)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients with enough mayonnaise to make it moist.
  • Scoop out the center of the French bread loaf and fill with the crab filling.
  • Bake in 350F oven until the cheese melts.

Tips:

  • Choose the freshest crab possible. Fresh crab has a sweet, delicate flavor and a firm, meaty texture. If you're not sure how to tell if crab is fresh, ask the fishmonger or look for crabs that are lively and have bright, clear eyes.
  • Cook crab as soon as possible after it's been caught. The sooner you cook crab, the better the flavor and texture will be. If you can't cook crab right away, store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
  • Be careful not to overcook crab. Overcooked crab is tough and chewy. The best way to cook crab is to steam it or boil it until the meat is opaque and firm. You can also bake or grill crab, but be sure to cook it over indirect heat so that it doesn't dry out.
  • Serve crab with a variety of dipping sauces. Crab is delicious with butter, mayonnaise, cocktail sauce, or tartar sauce. You can also serve crab with lemon wedges or drawn butter.

Conclusion:

Crab is a delicious and versatile seafood that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Whether you're boiling it, steaming it, baking it, or grilling it, be sure to cook crab carefully and serve it with your favorite dipping sauce. With its sweet, delicate flavor and firm, meaty texture, crab is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table.
