This is a recipe my grandma made for a local JELL-O® contest. She won first place! It is a delicious salad like nothing I have ever seen. I grew up eating this cranberry salad every year at Thanksgiving. It reminds me of my grandma, who I loved so much!

1 pound fresh cranberries
2 cups white sugar
1 ½ cups water
2 (3 ounce) packages cherry-flavored gelatin (such as JELL-O®)
1 ½ cups chopped celery
1 ½ cups chopped, peeled apple
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Stir cranberries, sugar, and water together in a saucepan; cook over medium heat, stirring often, until most of the berries have popped open, about 20 minutes.
  • Remove saucepan from heat. Stir gelatin into the cranberries mixture until dissolved completely; add celery, apple, and pecans and stir. Pour into a glass 13x9-inch dish.
  • Refrigerate until set in the center, 10 to 12 hours.

1 (12 ounce) package frozen cranberries
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup chopped pecans
1 (10 ounce) package miniature marshmallows
1 cup sugar
1 pint heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • Put cranberries in a food processor and blend until well chopped. Transfer cranberries to a large bowl, and mix in pineapple, pecans, marshmallows and sugar.
  • In a medium bowl, beat cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Fold whipped cream into cranberry mixture. Chill until ready to serve. (Or, freeze for 2 hours before serving.)

1 (3 ounce) package raspberry Jell-O gelatin
1 (3 ounce) package cherry Jell-O
3 cups hot water
1 lb cranberries
1 orange, peeled and pulped
1 cup sugar
1 apple
1 cup celery
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Mix two packages jello with 3 cups hot water. Let cool. Grind cranberries and peeled orange. Add to cooled jello mixture. Add sugar to jello and mix. Let set for a few minutes.
  • Dice celery and apples. Drain crushed pineapple. Add celery, apples, nuts and crushed pineapple to jello mixture. Add cinnamon and mix all together.
  • Pour into a 13x9 pan and refrigerate.

2 cups sugar
1 scant cup water
1 quart fresh cranberries
15 large marshmallows, cut up
1 large package of lemon jello
1 cup cold water
1 cup nuts, chopped
1 cup apple, chopped
1 cup celery, chopped

Steps:

  • Boil the first three ingredients together for 5 minutes. Add the marshmallows and the jello. Stir until the marshmallows have dissolved. Let it cool. When it is cool, add the cup of cold water, nuts, apples and celery. Pour into a 9" square dish and refrigerate until solid and ready to serve. (I usually make this in a clear, square glass dish because it looks pretty from the sides. I serve it cut into small squares because it seems nicer to me than a big glop from a spoon.)
