Tips:

  • Prep the Apples: Wash and peel the apples before slicing them. This will save you time and keep your streusel from getting soggy.
  • Use a Variety of Apples: For a more complex flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Crock Pot: Make sure there is enough room in the crock pot for the apples and streusel topping to cook evenly.
  • Cook on Low: The low setting will help the apples to cook slowly and evenly, preventing them from becoming mushy.
  • Check the Apples Regularly: Use a fork to check the apples periodically to see if they are tender. The cooking time will vary depending on the type of apples you use.
  • Make the Streusel Topping Ahead of Time: You can make the streusel topping up to a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator. This will save you time when you're ready to assemble the dish.
