STEEL CUT OATMEAL FOR THE CROCK POT
I love the texture of steel cut oats. You can make this the night before and breakfast is ready in the morning. I like fruit additions, but my kids do not, so I've listed them as optional. Also, it may sound like a lot of water, but trust me, I've experimented..

- Cover and cook on LOW 6-8 hours.
- It might form a "crust" around the outside. Just scrape it down with a spoon and stir.

CROCK POT APPLE OATMEAL
This oatmeal is so easy! I make it right before I go to bed, and I turn the crock pot off as soon as I get up. Everyone in my house loves it! Found this in 'Fix it and Forget it.' I also have to add in reference to some of the reviews, our family likes it mushy.

CREAMY SCOTTISH OATMEAL (WITH CROCK-POT INSTRUCTIONS)
Oh, man. Properly made steel-cut (aka Scottish or Irish) oatmeal will change your opinion about oatmeal. Scottish oatmeal, without the benefit of added fat, comes out creamy and delicious; the trick is the long cooking time. I had mine with milk added and, honestly, it was totally unnecessary. You can also make this in a crockpot; just fix it up before you go to bed and you will wake up to breakfast!

Steps:
- If you are making this in a crockpot, the first and only step is to throw everything together in a 2-quart crockpot [increase the water to 3-1/2 cups to allow for evaporation]. Okay, now nighty-nite! We'll see you in the morning!
- Otherwise, bring 1 cup milk and 3 cups water to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan.
- Stir in oats, spices, and raisins.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- When cooking is complete, stir in brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, pecans, and salt (don't add the salt with the boil; the oats won't cook right).
- If you are using a crockpot, you may notice that a crust has formed on the bottom of the crock after cooking. This is perfectly normal. You can eat it if you want to, or you can just leave it. Just make sure to transfer the recipe into a resealable bowl and soak your crockpot right away. This stuff will stick like glue if it dries.
- Serve! You can add more fresh or dried fruit, butter, more milk, whathaveyou, but it's awesome all on its own.
CROCK POT PEARS AND OATMEAL
I've converted my Recipe #160393 to a breakfast crock pot recipe What a tasty way to start the day (and I don't even like oatmeal)! Apples could be substituted. Sometimes I substitute equal parts of homemade granola for some of the oatmeal! Be sure to use steel cut oatmeal, as rolled oatmeal will cook too quickly. Do not use the large 6 qt. crock pots for this recipe, and if you cut the recipe in 1/2 use one of the mini-crock pots.

YUMMY AND SUPER EASY CROCK POT OATMEAL
Tip for oatmeal: make it in the crock pot overnight! It comes out very creamy from the slow cooking, and I love being able to get up and have that hot steamy bowl right away without having to do anything at all. You do have to clean up the crock pot, but you can make a large quantity and refrigerate the leftovers to be heated in the microwave for the next several days. I use two cups of oatmeal at a time, which is enough for four breakfasts (for me, anyway; probably more for people who don't have huge bowls like I do).

Steps:
- Put the oats and the water, along with anything else you want to add to the mix in the crock pot, turn on to low, and go to bed thinking about what a great breakfast you're going to have!
- I scoop it out of the crock pot and eat it with maple syrup, or blueberry syrup, or pourable fruit, and soy milk--yum!
- To reheat leftovers, I usually add a little water, and stir it a couple of times while microwaving until it's hot.
- You can add other flavorings as you like, such as dried fruits, other sweet spices, diced apples, etc.
- I usually put raisins on after it's cooked because I like them chewy.
- I've been meaning to try dried cranberries.

Steps:
- 1. Spray the inside of your crockpot with cooking oil spray.
- 2. Mix all ingredients in your crockpot, you can adjust the liquid or fruits to your preference. You can also adjust the flavors of spices or amounts of sweetener. I prefer it not to be very sweet.
- 3. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours. Stir and enjoy. You can add fresh fruit when the oatmeal is done and omit it from the cooked recipe. I like to make a batch up plain and change the fruits during the week for variety. You can use any add in, peanut butter and chocolate chips are good too. The main measurements to remember is 1 cup oats to 4 cups liquid.

Steps:
- In a medium bowl mix 1 1/2 cups water, pumpkin puree, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice.
- Add the oats to a 23-ounce or larger oven-safe bowl (I use Fiestaware or Pyrex are good choices). Pour the pumpkin mixture over the top. Stir. Carefully place bowl in the middle of the Crock Pot and carefully fill Crock Pot with water, to about 1 inch below the rim of the bowl. Sprinkle with pecans.
- Cook on low for 8 hours.
- Turn off Crock Pot and remove lid, allowing the bowl to cool enough to lift out of the Crock Pot. Remove bowl and stir well. Sprinkle pecans and additional brown sugar on individual servings, if desired.
Tips:
- Use the right oats: Old-fashioned, rolled oats are the best choice for crock pot oatmeal because they hold their shape and texture well during the cooking process.
- Measure your ingredients carefully: Too much or too little liquid can result in oatmeal that is too thick or too thin. Use a measuring cup to ensure accurate measurements.
- Don't overfill the crock pot: The oatmeal will expand as it cooks, so be sure to leave enough room in the crock pot for it to rise.
- Cook on low heat: Low heat is the best setting for cooking oatmeal in a crock pot. This will help to prevent the oatmeal from burning or boiling over.
- Stir the oatmeal occasionally: Stirring the oatmeal occasionally will help to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the crock pot and will also help to evenly distribute the heat.
- Let the oatmeal rest before serving: Once the oatmeal is cooked, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the oats to absorb any remaining liquid and will also help to thicken the oatmeal.
Conclusion:
Crock pot oatmeal is a delicious and easy breakfast option that can be enjoyed all week long. By following these tips, you can make sure that your crock pot oatmeal turns out perfect every time. Experiment with different toppings and flavors to find your favorite way to enjoy this classic dish.
