1/2 cup half-and-half
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups panko
1 1/2 cups sweetened corn and oat cereal (such as Cap'n Crunch), crushed into fine crumbs

CRUNCHY FRENCH TOAST

Crunchy French Toast image

Ok I adopted this recipe and I have made it my own with a couple of changes. This used to call for coconut and corflakes, I omitted the coconut because it burned on me very quick. I also changed the bread from white to wheat, substituted the cornflakes for Kellogs honey and oats corflakes. Added confectioners sugar and Vanilla. I...

Provided by Martha Aguirre

Categories     Breakfast

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 egg
1/3 c coconut milk ( you can also use vanilla soy milk) for you that can't tolerate dairy.
2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/3 c crushed cornflakes (i used kellogs honey and oats)
3 Tbsp butter, you will need more than this (just keep adding as needed)
4 slice wheat bread
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp confectioners' sugar set aside( aas much as you need)

Steps:

  • 1. Blend egg, milk, Vanilla, sugar and cinnamon.
  • 2. Dip bread in egg mixture, then in corn flakes
  • 3. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • 4. Brown in skillet until light golden on both sides, turning once.
  • 5. Serve with maple syrup and a touch of Confectioners sugar.

Tips:

  • Use day old firm bread. Stale bread will soak up more of the egg mixture, resulting in a crispier, less soggy French toast.
  • Use a heavy skillet. A cast iron skillet or griddle will help to evenly distribute the heat and prevent the French toast from sticking.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. Cook the French toast in batches if necessary to avoid steaming them.
  • Cook the French toast over medium heat. This will help to prevent the outside from burning before the inside is cooked through.
  • Flip the French toast only once. Flipping it too often will make it more likely to break.
  • Serve the French toast immediately with your favorite toppings, such as butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Crunchy French toast is a delicious and versatile breakfast or brunch dish that can be made with a variety of different ingredients. With a little practice, you can easily master the art of making this classic recipe. So next time you're looking for a special way to start your day, give crunchy French toast a try.
