Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 ½ cups whole wheat flour (see note below for substitutions)
1 egg
1 cup peanut butter (SEE NOTE)
1 cup water
2 tablespoons honey
⅓ cup cornstarch (can also use potato starch or arrowroot powder)
2 Tablespoons peanut butter
1 Tablespoon honey
3-4 tablespoons hot water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.
  • In a large bowl combine flour and the egg. Add peanut butter, water, honey and stir until you have stiff dough. the dough becomes very firm and sticky. you may need to use your hands, or the paddle attachment on your mixer.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough about 1/2 inch thick and use a cookie cutter to make fun shapes. the treats barely spread and rise, so get creative with your shapes.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden. Once done, set aside to cool. (If you have smaller cookies, use less time, otherwise the bottom might burn.)
  • To make frosting, combine the peanut butter and honey in a microwavable bowl, and heat in the microwave in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until melted.
  • Add melted peanut butter mixture to cornstarch and stir until just combined.
  • Slowly add in water 1 Tablespoon at a time until you have reached the consistency that you would like. For a thinner frosting, add more water.
  • Add frosting to a piping bag and pipe designs on top of each dog treat.
  • Frost treats with the peanut butter/honey mixture for an even more tempting cookie.
  • Store in an airtight container or give as gifts!

CRUNCHY PEANUT BUTTER DOG COOKIES

Crunchy Peanut Butter Dog Cookies image

This recipe was born out of puppy boredom. Rascal loves Kim D's recipe #28099 but he wanted some variety so taking her lead I came up with this version. Now he has 2 favorite cookie recipes.

Provided by Deely

Categories     < 60 Mins

Time 40m

Yield 50 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 eggs
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter (I use Peter Pan)
2 cups wheat flour
1/8-1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*.
  • Mix together eggs, peanut butter and honey, if using.
  • Add flour and mix until crumbly.
  • Add water 1/8 cup at a time and mix with your hands.
  • You may have to add a little bit more water to make dough hold together.
  • Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick.
  • Cut into shapes or use pizza cutter and cut into squares.
  • Place on parchment lined cookie sheets.
  • Bake 12 minutes, flip and bake 10 minutes more.
  • Store in the refrigerator.

Tips:

  • Use natural peanut butter: Avoid peanut butter with added sugars or oils. Look for brands that contain only peanuts and salt.
  • Do not use xylitol: Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that is toxic to dogs. Make sure your peanut butter does not contain xylitol.
  • Chill the dough before baking: Chilling the dough will help the cookies hold their shape better.
  • Bake the cookies until they are golden brown: The cookies should be firm to the touch when they are done.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before serving: The cookies will be easier to handle and will taste better once they have cooled.

Conclusion:

These crunchy peanut butter dog cookies are a delicious and healthy treat that your furry friend will love. Made with all-natural ingredients, these cookies are packed with peanut butter flavor and are sure to be a hit with your pup. Plus, they're easy to make and can be stored for up to two weeks, making them a convenient snack or training reward.
