DELICIOUS OVEN FRIES

Delicious Oven Fries image

This recipe is healthy and tasty. Great for people watching cholesterol and heart. Got it from a cookbook at a bookstore. Prepare these at least a couple hours ahead of time. NOTE: You can also put a tablespoon of liquid smoke (any flavor will do and found in BBQ sauces section) and also Vegeta (found in delis or foreign food section). Before chilling it takes about 10 minutes to peel the potatoes that is if you want to, and if you keep the skin on there will be more time for you. The only part that takes time is chilling the potato strips for 1 hour. Cooking is about 35 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for French fries because they are starchy and have a low moisture content. This will help them crisp up nicely in the oven.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized strips: This will help them cook evenly. You can use a sharp knife or a mandoline to cut the potatoes. French fry cutters are useful, if you can find one.
  • Soak the potatoes in water: This will help remove some of the starch from the potatoes, which will help them crisp up. Soak the potatoes for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly: Before you cook the potatoes, make sure they are very dry. This will help them crisp up. You can use a paper towel or a salad spinner to dry the potatoes.
  • Use a high oven temperature: The higher the oven temperature, the crispier the French fries will be. Cook the fries at 425 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking sheet: Make sure there is enough space between the fries on the baking sheet so that they can cook evenly. If you overcrowd the baking sheet, the fries will steam instead of crisp up.
  • Flip the fries halfway through cooking: This will help them cook evenly. Use a spatula to carefully flip the fries over.
  • Season the fries: Once the fries are cooked, season them with salt and pepper, or your favorite seasonings. You can also add grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, or chili powder.

Conclusion:

With these tips, you can make delicious oven-baked French fries that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They are a perfect side dish for burgers, sandwiches, or chicken. You can also serve them with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
