PHIL'S DRUNKEN KIELBASA

This is a great recipe that is a hit at all of our family parties. My dad has been making it for years. I recommend making it a couple of days in advance so the kielbasa "marinates" for a while. Refrigerate and then reheat when needed. Warning- that when refrigerated the sauce congeals a bit and looks pretty unappetizing. Once heated it goes back to normal and is delicious!

These are very good and so easy to make. I gave stovetop directions, but I also put them in the crockpot on low for the day.

Time 50m

Yield 1 pound, 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 lb kielbasa
1 (12 ounce) bottle chili sauce
1 cup brown sugar
1 (12 ounce) can beer

Steps:

  • Cut kielbasa into 1" pieces and place in saucepan.
  • Combine chili sauce, brown sugar and beer.
  • Pour over kielbasa.
  • Simmer 45 minutes.

Tips:

  • Always start with high quality Polska Kielbasa: Look for ones made with real pork, not mechanically separated meats, and avoid ones that contain too much filler.
  • Don't boil or fry your kielbasa. This will make it tough and dry. Instead, cook it slowly over low heat to allow the flavors to develop.
  • Slice your kielbasa into 1-inch pieces before cooking. This will help it cook evenly and prevent it from curling up.
  • Use a variety of liquors to infuse your kielbasa with flavor. Beer, wine, whiskey, and brandy all work well.
  • Add some vegetables and spices to your drunken kielbasa. This will help round out the flavors and make it a more complete dish.
  • Serve your drunken kielbasa with your favorite sides. Mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and roasted vegetables are all great options.

Conclusion:

Drunken kielbasa is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whether you're looking for a quick and easy weeknight meal or a festive dish to serve at a party, drunken kielbasa is sure to please everyone at the table.
