Tips for Making Drunken Plantains:

  • Choose ripe plantains: Look for plantains that are yellow or black with a few brown spots. Avoid plantains that are green or have too many brown spots, as they will be too starchy and not as sweet.
  • Slice the plantains evenly: This will help them cook evenly. Cut the plantains into 1-inch thick slices.
  • Soak the plantains in lime juice: This will help to prevent the plantains from browning and will also add a bit of tanginess.
  • Use a good quality rum: The rum is a key ingredient in this dish, so it's important to use a good quality rum that you enjoy the taste of.
  • Don't overcook the plantains: Plantains should be cooked until they are soft and tender, but not mushy. Overcooked plantains will be tough and chewy.
  • Serve the plantains hot: Drunken plantains are best served hot, so eat them as soon as they are done cooking.

Conclusion:

Drunken plantains are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are perfect for parties or potlucks, and they can also be served as a snack or appetizer. Whether you are a fan of rum or not, you are sure to enjoy this unique and flavorful dish.
