EASY COOKIE CUTTER DOUGH

Easy Cookie Cutter Dough image

I needed an easy cookie cutter recipe in a hurry and I found this brilliant recipe online here http://planningwithkids.com/2010/05/01/easy-cookie-cutter-recipe/ *Original recipe says to use self raising flour but I didnt have any so added extra baking powder & salt. I want to use my own photos to show exactly how easy this is,...

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 1/4 c flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 c caster sugar
150 g butter
2 eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 180C Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl
  • 2. Cream butter, sugar and vanilla in a separate bowl
  • 3. Add one egg to butter mixture and mix until completely combined, then add other egg and repeat, lastly add milk and mix well.
  • 4. Add butter mixture to the flour and mix until it starts to come together then using hands, mix dough into a ball
  • 5. Cut dough into 3 parts and roll each part out flat, between 2 sheets of baking paper. Layer all 3 sheets into a baking dish and refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour. I found this a little hard because my baking paper was so slippery and it was hard to roll, next time I might try cling wrap instead.
  • 6. Remove sheets from fridge and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. TIP: Spray cookie cutters with cooking spray or grease the edges (not too much). This makes it easier to pop the dough out from the cookie cutter.
  • 7. Bake for 8 minutes or until golden. Roll out remaining dough and repeat until finished.
  • 8. I got a whole lot of cookies out of this recipe. The star shaped cookie cutter I used was about 3 inches, so all together I was able to make about 30 cookies. I love this recipe, not bad for my first attempt and I think it will get easier the more I make it but Im very grateful to the lady who posted the original recipe.

They taste great, stay soft, and the dough is easy to work with, even in our dry climate! I think I got the recipe off of a Land o' Lakes butter package over 20 years ago. They're called 'best ever' for a reason.

Tips:

  • Use unsalted butter: This allows you to control the amount of salt in the cookies. If you only have salted butter, omit the additional salt called for in the recipe.
  • Soften the butter and cream cheese to room temperature: This will make them easier to mix and will help the cookies turn out smooth and creamy.
  • Chill the dough before baking: This will help the cookies hold their shape and prevent them from spreading too much.
  • Use a cookie scoop to drop the dough onto the baking sheet: This will help ensure that the cookies are all the same size and shape.
  • Bake the cookies until the edges are just beginning to brown: Overbaking will make them dry and crumbly.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack: This will help them to set and prevent them from breaking.

Conclusion:

These butter cookies are a classic treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be customized with different flavors and toppings. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced baker, these cookies are sure to be a hit. So next time you are looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give these butter cookies a try.
