Provided by Camille Beckstrand

Categories     Dessert

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 8

¾ cup butter (I used unsalted)
1¾ cups light brown sugar (packed)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 eggs
1¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1-2 cups various add-ins

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 13x9" baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Place the butter in a large saucepan and melt over low heat. Take the saucepan off the heat and add brown sugar; stir until completely incorporated. Let butter and brown sugar mixture cool for 5-6 minutes. Slowly add in the vanilla and then add in the eggs one at a time, mixing after each one.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add half of the flour mixture into the saucepan and stir well. Continue to stir as you add the rest of the flour mixture.
  • Fold in any add-ins that you want to include (chocolate chips, nuts, etc). Spread batter in prepared 13x9" pan. Bake for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bars comes out clean (be sure to not overcook, as they will not be soft and chewy if cooked for too long!).
  • Let cool and cut into bars.

VIRGIL'S "TOP SECRET" PORK CHOP MARINADE

Virgil's

This is my father-in-law's famous 'top secret' pork chop marinade. Top secret means that he shared it with everyone the last 20 years, even my brother, who is no relation to Virgil, but he would never share with me until recently. I gave him so much grief about it that he finally shared it with me. I know what you're thinking, 'Virgil didn't share it with you because he didn't want it blabbed on the internet.' Nope. He only did that to pester me. This is a very good marinade that was developed by Virgil and his brother specifically for pork chops, but also works on beef and chicken.

Tips:

  • Experiment with different cuts of pork chops: Pork chops can vary in thickness and flavor, so choose the cut that best suits your preferences and budget.
  • Use a flavorful marinade: The marinade not only adds flavor to the pork chops, but also helps tenderize them. Choose a marinade that complements the flavor of the pork chops and let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • Cook the pork chops over medium heat: Cooking the pork chops over medium heat helps prevent them from overcooking and drying out. Cook them until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for medium-rare, 150°F (66°C) for medium, or 160°F (71°C) for medium-well.
  • Let the pork chops rest before serving: Letting the pork chops rest for a few minutes before serving allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful bite.
