Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: The fresher your ingredients, the better your coffee squares will taste. This is especially true for the coffee, which should be freshly ground for the best flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will result in tough, dense coffee squares. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the coffee squares until they are set: The coffee squares are done baking when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Don't overbake them, or they will be dry.
  • Let the coffee squares cool completely before frosting them: This will help the frosting to set properly.
  • Use a variety of toppings: Coffee squares can be topped with a variety of different frostings, glazes, or crumbles. Get creative and experiment with different flavors.
