MY FAVORITE FRUIT SALAD

I have been making this recipe for over 40 years, and it is always a hit. Use 1/2 red and 1/2 Green maraschino cherries for a more colorful salad. At Easter time, I like to use the multi colored miniature marshmallows, too.

Time 30m

3 large apples, cored and diced
1 large can pineapple chunks in natural juices (drained)
1 large can peaches in natural juices, (drained) or 4 large peaches pitted and sliced
1 large bunch seedless grapes... red or green
3 - 4 large bananas sliced
2 lb fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
1 lb fresh blueberries
1 jar(s) maraschino cherries, (drained)
1 pt vanilla yogurt
1 c orangejuice
1 can(s) angel flake cocoanut (optional)
1 pkg miniature marshmallows (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. in a large serving bowl, mix together all the fruits.
  • 2. blend yogurt and orange juice together and pour over the fruit, mix well
  • 3. can add coconut and marshmallows if you choose... it's good with and without it.
  • 4. * can add other fruits as well... Kiwi is a favorite of mine, as are mandarine oranges, pomagranate seeds, and dried cranberries. Best to use whatever is in season.. this is just the way I usually make it. * this salad is just as tasty without the dressing, and if you choose you can substitute sour cream for the yogurt - if you do though I'd omit the orangejuice.

Tips:

- To achieve the best fruit salad, use high-quality, ripe fruits. This ensures the salad is packed with natural sweetness and flavor. If possible, opt for organic or locally grown fruits to support sustainable farming practices. - For a refreshing twist, consider adding citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, or lemons to your salad. Their zesty flavor adds a delightful brightness and tanginess that complements the sweetness of other fruits. - To prevent the fruits from browning, toss them gently in a mixture of lemon juice and honey. This simple step helps preserve their vibrant colors and prevents them from oxidizing too quickly. - When preparing the salad, avoid cutting the fruits too small. Aim for bite-sized pieces that allow you to savor the distinct flavors and textures of each fruit. Additionally, keep the melon rind on for a pop of color and a slightly crunchy texture. - For an extra burst of flavor, consider adding herbs like mint or basil to your fruit salad. Their aromatic properties enhance the overall taste and create a refreshing and unique flavor profile.

Conclusion:

Fruit salad is a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed as a refreshing snack, a light meal, or a delightful dessert. With endless variations and customization options, you can tailor the salad to your personal preferences and dietary needs. Experiment with different fruits, flavors, and textures to create a fruit salad that tantalizes your taste buds and nourishes your body. Remember to use fresh, high-quality fruits, and handle them with care to preserve their natural goodness. Whether you're looking for a quick and healthy breakfast or a vibrant side dish for your next gathering, a fruit salad is always a crowd-pleaser.
