2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup molasses
1 large egg, room temperature, lightly beaten

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar and molasses. Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour into a large bowl; let stand 10 minutes. Stir in egg and vanilla. 1 cup packed brown sugar
⅔ cup cold water
⅓ cup shortening
7 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

1 (16 ounce) package chocolate frosting

1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
1 tsp of ground Ginger
1 tsp of ground nutmeg
1 tsp of cinnamon

50g unsalted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg - beaten
pre-heat the oven to 190 degrees C

Steps:

  • sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and ground ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon together in a mixing bowl
  • chop the butter into small pieces, and rub into dry mixture until the consistency of fine breadcrumbs, then add the sugar and mix together
