My family fights over this great Thanksgiving side dish that was first brought to our table by my Aunt Joan more than ten years ago. It's the only thing I've found that will convert even the most die-hard canned cranberry eater to a fresh berry advocate.

"GLOP"

In the lean years of our marriage, I had to get pretty creative with a lb. of hamburger. This is just one of the staples that kept us going. We affectionately called it "Glop".

Provided by Sandra Allen

Categories     Beef

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 lb hamburger
1 can(s) cream of chicken or mushroom soup
1 pkg tater tots
1 can(s) corn
dash(es) salt and pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Brown or boil and drain 1 lb. ground beef.
  • 2. Once drained of water and fat, mix in 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup. For an added taste, you can mix half and half mushroom and celery. Optional: Mix in a can of drained corn or your favorite veggie. I don't recommend frozen.
  • 3. In the baking dish, cover the top with tater tots. Bake at the temperature recommended on the tots package. The drop down menu has specific times on it but it's better to go with the package directions. Leave in a bit longer if you like your tots crispy. Serve with a salad and rolls. This is a cheap dish that is a hit with the "meat and potatoes" crowd.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and tools ready to go. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling.
  • Use Fresh, Quality Ingredients: The better the quality of your ingredients, the better your dish will taste. Whenever possible, use fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  • Don't Be Afraid to Experiment: Cooking is all about creativity! Don't be afraid to try new things and experiment with different flavors and ingredients.
  • Taste as You Go: Season your dish as you cook and taste it along the way. This will help you adjust the flavors to your liking.
  • Don't Overcook: One of the most common mistakes home cooks make is overcooking their food. This can result in dry, tough dishes. Be careful not to overcook your food, especially delicate proteins like fish and chicken.
  • Let Your Food Rest: After you cook your food, let it rest for a few minutes before serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the dish, resulting in a more flavorful and tender dish.

Conclusion:

Cooking is a skill that takes time and practice to develop. But with a little patience and effort, anyone can learn to cook delicious, healthy meals. By following the tips above, you can improve your cooking skills and create dishes that your family and friends will love. So get in the kitchen and start experimenting!
