GRANDMA'S CLASSIC NO-BAKE COOKIES

Grandma's Classic No-Bake Cookies image

This is the first cookie I ever learned to make as a child. They're very delicious with the peanut butter and oatmeal. You can eat them fresh out of the pan in a bowl with a spoon, which is delicious with a glass of milk besides. This no-bake cookie recipe was my grandmother's, and my mother taught it to her children, and I will to mine. I hope you have as much fun making this either by yourself or with your children, as I did with my mom. Separate cookies with waxed paper if putting in a tin or baggie to prevent sticking.

Grandma's E-Z Peanut Butter Cookies image

Perfect recipe for the junior baker! One bowl, fun to make, easy to succeed. Oh, and they taste great, too! High altitude tested (no adjustments).

Provided by Elizabeth H.

Categories     Dessert

Time 30m

Yield 24-30 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 well-beaten egg (extra-large egg yields best results)
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350-degrees.
  • Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl.
  • Mix well with a spoon.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch round balls.
  • Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  • Press balls flat with fork dipped in extra sugar.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes.
  • Cookies should not be too brown.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool on cookie sheet for one minute, then remove to wire racks.

Tips:

  • Use fresh peanuts: Fresh peanuts have a sweeter, more flavorful taste than stale peanuts.
  • Roast the peanuts before using them: Roasting the peanuts will enhance their flavor and make them more crunchy.
  • Use a food processor to make the peanut butter: A food processor will make a smoother, more consistent peanut butter than a blender.
  • Add a little salt to the peanut butter: Salt will help to balance out the sweetness of the peanut butter.
  • Use a variety of toppings: You can top your peanut butter toast with anything from classic jelly to fresh fruit to chocolate chips.

Conclusion:

Peanut butter toast is a quick, easy, and delicious breakfast or snack. It's a great way to use up leftover peanut butter, and it's a versatile dish that can be customized to your liking. Whether you like your peanut butter toast simple or loaded with toppings, there's a recipe out there for you. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give peanut butter toast a try.
