My friend made this for my baby shower in 2004, and it's amazing! I'm glad to share the recipe. You can experiment and change the whole taste by using different flavors of jell-o. It's also a fun way to make the salad fit in with a theme. It's also great made a day ahead.

Categories     Easy Side Dishes

Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

4 cups water
6 oz Orange Jello Mix
3 ounce instant vanilla pudding
11 ounce can Mandarin oranges, drained
1/2 of a 20 ounce can of Pineapple chunks, drained
One 8 ounce container cool whip

Steps:

  • Mix together 4 cups of water, orange jello mix, and vanilla pudding mix in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil, stirring the whole time to keep clumps from forming. Once it starts to boil, remove from heat. Pour into a heat-resistant container (I usually use a glass baking dish), cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for about four hours. Remove from fridge and break up the jello into chunks. Place in a large bowl. Add in the pineapple, mandarin oranges, and whipped cream and mix around until everything is combined. Keep refrigerated until you are ready to serve.

Tips:

  • For a smoother jello salad, ensure the grapefruit and orange segments are thoroughly chilled before mixing with the jello mixture.
  • Use a variety of citrus fruits to add different flavors and colors to the salad. Grapefruit, oranges, and lemons are all great options.
  • For a sweeter salad, add more sugar to the jello mixture. You can also add honey or agave nectar for a healthier alternative.
  • If you prefer a tarter salad, reduce the amount of sugar in the jello mixture. You can also add a squeeze of lemon juice or lime juice to brighten the flavors.
  • Garnish the salad with fresh mint or parsley for a pop of color and flavor.

Conclusion:

Grapefruit orange jello salad is a refreshing and delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its vibrant colors and tangy flavor, this salad is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
