Tips:

  • Choose Fresh Gumdrops: Use fresh, soft gumdrops for the best results. Hard or stale gumdrops may not melt properly, resulting in a grainy texture.
  • Use a Double Boiler: Melting the gumdrops in a double boiler ensures they melt slowly and evenly, preventing them from scorching or burning.
  • Stir Continuously: Stir the gumdrop mixture constantly while melting to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan and burning.
  • Add Corn Syrup: A little corn syrup helps to prevent the gumdrops from crystallizing and becoming hard as they cool.
  • Use Parchment Paper: Lining the baking sheet with parchment paper makes it easy to remove the gumdrop candies once they have set.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Allow the gumdrop candies to chill completely in the refrigerator before cutting them into pieces. This will help them hold their shape.
  • Store Properly: Store the gumdrop candies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can also freeze them for up to a month.
