Yield 6 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (12-oz) pkg (2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur or 1 teaspoon orange extract
1 can chocolate fudge or chocolate frosting supreme
1 cup coconut*

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate chips in medium saucepan over low heat, sitrring constantly; remove from heat. Stir in orange liqueur and frosting; blend well. Refrigerate 1 to 2 hours or until firm. Place coconut in pie pan. Scoop mixture into 1-inch balls; drop onto coconut. (Mixture will be sticky.) Roll to coat. Place in foil candy cups, if desired. Store in refrigerator. TIP: *Truffles can also be coated with chocolate sprinkles, ground nuts or cocoa.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality chocolate. The better the chocolate, the better the truffles will taste. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Temper the chocolate. Tempering is a process of heating and cooling chocolate that helps to stabilize it and give it a smooth, glossy finish.
  • Use fresh cream. Fresh cream will give the truffles a rich, creamy flavor.
  • Don't overmix the ganache. Overmixing the ganache will make it grainy.
  • Chill the ganache thoroughly before shaping it into truffles. This will help the truffles to hold their shape.
  • Roll the truffles in cocoa powder, chopped nuts, or sprinkles. This will give the truffles a festive look and help to prevent them from sticking together.
  • Truffles can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Holiday truffles are a delicious and festive treat that are perfect for any occasion. With a little planning and effort, you can easily make your own truffles at home. Just be sure to follow the tips above to ensure that your truffles turn out perfectly.
