LAYERED HOLIDAY JELLO SALAD

Layered Holiday Jello Salad image

This is a variation on the traditional cranberry/pineapple salad; red and green layers with a cream cheese layer in between. My mom makes this at Christmas and/or Thanksgiving and I can't stop eating it. Would be good for potlucks, too. Yum!

LAYERED JELLO SALAD

This comes from my 'Nanny's' (grandma) kitchen. I make it every Holiday season and it brings back memories as this dish was my absolute favorite sweet side dish. I think it still is. My mouth waters when thinking about it. It seems simple but it packs a great flavor.

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 large mixed fruit jello
1 can(s) pineapple pieces - drained
1 small sour cream
2 bananas
1 c whole pecan halves

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare jello per box directions. When dissolved in the pot, add can of drained pineapple and pecans. Let stand for a couple of minutes.
  • 2. Add half of the mixture to an 8X8 pan. Put in refrigerator or freezer (if you want it to set faster-but watch it close you don't want to freeze it) until set, leaving remaining jello mixture on the stovetop with heat off.
  • 3. Once set, layer sliced bananas over this to make one layer. Add entire thing of sour cream over bananas. Then pour the rest of the remaining liquid jello over this. Set in fridge.

Tips:

  • Choose the right gelatin: Use unflavored gelatin for more control over the flavor and color of your layered jello. You can also use flavored gelatin, but be aware that the flavor will be more pronounced.
  • Use cold liquids: Cold liquids will help the gelatin set faster. You can use water, juice, or even dairy products like milk or yogurt.
  • Chill each layer before adding the next: This will help prevent the layers from mixing together. You can chill the layers in the refrigerator or freezer.
  • Use a variety of colors and flavors: Get creative with your layered jello! You can use different colors of gelatin, juices, and fruits to create a unique and visually appealing dessert.
  • Garnish with fresh fruit or whipped cream: Add a finishing touch to your layered jello with fresh fruit or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Creating layered jello is a fun and easy way to make a delicious and visually appealing dessert. With a little creativity, you can create a unique and personalized layered jello that will impress your friends and family. So next time you're looking for a sweet treat, give layered jello a try!
