Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples with different textures and flavors, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn. This will create a more complex and interesting filling.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Use a combination of sugar and spices: The sugar will help to sweeten the filling, while the spices will add depth and flavor. Common spices used in apple pie include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Dot the filling with butter: This will help to keep the filling moist and prevent it from becoming dry.
  • Roll out the dough thinly: This will help to ensure that the crust is flaky and crispy.
  • Brush the edges of the dough with water before sealing: This will help to create a tight seal and prevent the filling from leaking out.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: Check the pie frequently to prevent it from overcooking.
