Categories     Cheese Appetizers

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 4

6 oz cream cheese
2 Tbsp hot mango chutney, or regular mango chutney with 2 1/4 teaspoons dijonmustard and 6 drops tobasco sauce
1/2 c imitation crab, chopped
36 large crackers or 18 belgian endive leaves

Steps:

  • 1. In a small bowl beat cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth.
  • 2. Beat in the hot mango chutney(or regular with Dijon and tabasco)
  • 3. Fold in the crab.
  • 4. Form into a ball and serve with thick crackers, such as Triscuits. Or for individual servings pipe the mixture into the Belgium endive leaves.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe, high-quality mangoes: Firm but ripe mangoes are ideal for making chutney because they offer a balance of sweetness and tanginess. Look for mangoes that have a yellow or orange-yellow color, and avoid those that are green or have blemishes.
  • Use a variety of spices: Spices like ginger, garlic, chili peppers, and mustard seeds add depth and complexity to the chutney. Experiment with different combinations to find a flavor profile that you enjoy.
  • Adjust the sweetness and heat: The amount of sugar and chili peppers you add will determine the sweetness and heat level of the chutney. Taste the chutney as you cook it and adjust the ingredients accordingly.
  • Cook the chutney until it reaches the desired consistency: Depending on your preference, you can cook the chutney until it is thick and jam-like or until it retains a slightly chunky texture. Keep in mind that the chutney will thicken as it cools.
  • Store the chutney properly: Store the chutney in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for up to 6 months. You can also process the chutney in a water bath canner to extend its shelf life.

Conclusion:

Mango chutney is a versatile condiment that can be enjoyed in various ways. It pairs well with roasted meats, grilled fish, and curries. You can also spread it on sandwiches, crackers, or toast. With its sweet, tangy, and spicy flavor profile, mango chutney adds a burst of flavor to any dish. Experiment with different recipes and discover the many ways to enjoy this delicious condiment.
