¼ teaspoon almond extract
2 tablespoons all purpose flour OR 3 tablespoons if using frozen cherries
⅔ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup all purpose flour

BEST CHERRY COBBLER

Best Cherry Cobbler image

I love this simple cherry cobbler so much that I used to ask for it on my birthday instead of a birthday cake. Everyone I've ever made it for have loved it. My mom taught me the recipe and I've played around with it only a little (by cutting down the sugar slightly or using a different pie filling.)

Provided by chef 1013062

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h10m

Yield 1 cobbler

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup milk
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup sugar (or 3/4 cup)
1/2 cup butter
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling (or pie filling of your choice. Personally, I like cherry and apple best)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Melt butter in casserole dish (or the dish you use to bake the cobbler).
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, flour, and sugar.
  • Pour the mixture into the dish with the butter, don't stir.
  • Then add the pie filling again, not stirring, but do take a fork and move the filling around, just to disperse the mixture.
  • Bake for 1 hour.

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) very cold unsalted butter
2 cups cold heavy cream, plus more for brushing
3 pounds fresh cherries, pitted, or 2 1/4 pounds frozen cherries
4 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/2 cup sugar. Using large holes on a box grater, grate butter into flour mixture. With a fork, stir in cream until dough just comes together. On a floured work surface, roll out dough to a 3/4-inch thickness with a floured rolling pin. With a knife or biscuit cutter, cut out 8 to 12 rounds or squares of dough.
  • In a bowl, combine cherries, remaining 1/2 cup sugar, the cornstarch, and vanilla. Divide mixture among four 1- to 1 1/2-cup ramekins; top each with 2 to 3 dough pieces. Brush tops with cream. Bake cobblers on a rimmed baking sheet until biscuits are golden and juices are bubbling, 40 to 45 minutes, rotating sheet halfway through. Let cool 15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Nutrition Facts : Calories 595 g, Fat 27 g, Fiber 4 g, Protein 7 g

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe cherries. This will ensure that your cobbler has the best flavor.
  • Pit the cherries before using them. You can use a cherry pitter or a knife to do this.
  • Add a little bit of cornstarch or flour to the cherries before adding them to the cobbler. This will help to thicken the filling and prevent it from being too runny.
  • Use a combination of white and brown sugar in the filling. This will give the cobbler a more complex flavor.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing will make the cobbler tough.
  • Bake the cobbler until the filling is bubbling and the crust is golden brown.
  • Serve the cobbler warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Michigan cherry cobbler is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and tart filling and flaky crust, this cobbler is sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give this Michigan cherry cobbler recipe a try.
