Time 4h20m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled
1 1/2 tablespoons instant espresso granules
One 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Coffee liqueur, for serving
Hot coffee, for serving

Steps:

  • Add the heavy cream and instant espresso granules to a large glass mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to beat together until the espresso dissolves into the cream and stiff peaks form, 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the sweetened condensed milk to a second glass mixing bowl. Delicately fold the espresso whipped cream into the sweetened condensed milk in 3 increments, being sure the whipped cream is evenly combined before adding more.
  • Pour half of the mixture into a 9-by-5-inch loaf pan. Sprinkle the mixture with half of the chocolate chips. Use a spoon to stir and swirl the chocolate chips into the mixture. Top with the remaining mixture and chocolate chips. Once again, stir and swirl the chocolate chips so they are evenly dispersed into the ice cream mixture.
  • Cover and freeze until completely set, at least 4 hours or preferably overnight.
  • To serve, scoop the ice cream into coffee cups or mugs. Top with coffee liqueur and coffee. Serve immediately.

Conclusion

Creating a delectable Affogato calls for careful attention to ingredients and preparation methods. Here are some essential tips for a perfect Affogato experience: • Freshness Counts: Use freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee for the ideal bitterness to balance the sweetness of the ice cream. Stale coffee can compromise the flavors. • Coffee Quality Matters: The quality of coffee significantly impact the taste of the Affogato. Select high-grade coffee, ground just before brewing, to ensure a rich, full-bodied coffee. • Contrast & Complement: Select ice cream flavors that strike a balance between contrasting and complementary flavors with the coffee. Bittersweet chocolate goes well with classic espresso, while nutty flavors like pistachio or almond play well with coffee's bitterness. • Proper Pouring Technique: Pour the hot coffee or espresso directly over a scoop of ice cream. This technique allows the heat to melt the ice cream's surface slightly, creating a creamy, luscious texture. • Accents & Adornments: Consider adding accents to enhance the visual appeal and flavors. Mint leaves, chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or crushed coffee can add delightful elements. • Speedy Indulgence: Affogato is best enjoyed promptly after preparation. As it stands, the ice cream begins to melt, dilutes the coffee, and alters the texture. Be ready to savor this treat as soon as it's served. To Conclude, following these tips will lead you towards a fantastic homemade Affogato. Its simplicity and elegance make it a perfect dessert for any occasion. It is not only delightful indulgence but a symbol of culinary art. So, prepare yourself for a sensory journey with this classic coffee and ice cream masterpiece.
