Lace cookies, also known as Florentine cookies, are a classic Italian pastry that is a crispy and delicate treat. Made with a combination of sugar, butter, flour, and almonds, these cookies are traditionally flavored with vanilla and lemon zest. Their signature feature is their intricate lace-like pattern, which is achieved through a special baking process that involves spreading the batter very thinly onto a baking sheet. The result is a cookie that is light, airy, and visually stunning. Lace cookies are perfect for any occasion, whether you're looking for a simple dessert to enjoy with your family or a more elegant treat to serve at a special gathering.

MY NANA'S LACE COOKIES

My Nana's Lace Cookies image

These are delicate lace cookies with an amazing taste! A tradition in our family for Christmas since I was a little girl. These cookies spread to make a very thin wafer, almost transparent. Super easy to make, but be careful, as they can be quick to burn or cool too much on your cookie sheet - and then you'll be chipping the cookies off of your cookie sheet! I hope you enjoy these as much as my family does. Store in an airtight container until serving.

My Grandmother used to make these cookies every Christmas. They were hard, seedy, strange looking, and tasted like Heaven. They need to be made when the weather is cool and the humidity is low.

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the cookies will taste. Use real butter, not margarine, and good quality vanilla extract.
  • Chill the dough: Chilling the dough helps to prevent the cookies from spreading too much in the oven. This will result in a more delicate and lacy cookie.
  • Roll the dough thinly: The thinner the dough, the crispier the cookies will be. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/8 inch.
  • Use a sharp knife: When cutting the cookies out, use a sharp knife to make clean cuts. This will help to prevent the cookies from tearing.
  • Bake the cookies until they are golden brown: The cookies are done baking when they are golden brown around the edges. Be careful not to overbake them, or they will become dry and crumbly.

Conclusion:

Nana's Lace Cookies are a delicious and delicate cookie that is perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With their lacy texture and delicate flavor, these cookies are sure to be a hit at your next gathering.
