OUR FAVORITE MEATLOAF

Our Favorite Meatloaf image

This ultimate meatloaf recipe took rounds and rounds of testing to get just right. Our final version incorporates an ideal blend of seasoned ground beef and pork, aromatics, and breadcrumbs and bakes in a freeform loaf on a baking sheet instead of in a loaf pan for maximum browning. The result is a loaf that is savory, tender, and juicy, yet holds together well when sliced.

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 (10 1/2 ounce) can condensed vegetable beef soup, undiluted
1 egg
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
2 lbs ground beef

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Drain the sauce from the vegetables/pasta of the vegetable-beef soup and reserve.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the egg, vegetables/pasta from the soup, and breadcrumbs.
  • Add the ground beef and mix until well blended.
  • Shape meat mixture into a rounded loaf shape and place in a baking dish.
  • Pour reserved sauce from the soup over the loaf.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour.

Tips:

  • Use a combination of ground beef and ground pork: This will give your meatloaf a richer flavor and juicier texture.
  • Don't overwork the meat: Overworking the meat will make your meatloaf tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Add plenty of moisture: Meatloaf can be dry, so it's important to add plenty of moisture. This can be done by adding eggs, milk, or broth to the meat mixture.
  • Season the meatloaf well: Don't be afraid to use plenty of herbs and spices to season your meatloaf. This will help to give it a flavorful crust.
  • Cook the meatloaf in a loaf pan: This will help to keep the meatloaf moist and prevent it from falling apart.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing: This will help the meatloaf to hold together better when you slice it.
  • Serve the meatloaf with your favorite sides: Mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and gravy are all classic sides that pair well with meatloaf.

Conclusion:

Meatloaf is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. By following these tips, you can make a delicious and flavorful meatloaf that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give meatloaf a try!
