AVOCADO TOAST

Avocado toast is creamy, crisp and so satisfying. It's a delicious and simple breakfast, snack or light meal! It's best consumed immediately, since the avocado browns over time. Recipe as written yields 1 slice of basic avocado toast; multiply as necessary.

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 slice of bread (I like thick-sliced whole-grain bread best)
1/2 ripe avocado
Pinch of salt
Optional: Any of the extra toppings suggested in this post

Steps:

  • Toast your slice of bread until golden and firm.
  • Remove the pit from your avocado. Use a big spoon to scoop out the flesh. Put it in a bowl and mash it up with a fork until it's as smooth as you like it. Mix in a pinch of salt (about 1/8 teaspoon) and add more to taste, if desired.
  • Spread avocado on top of your toast. Enjoy as-is or top with any extras offered in this post (I highly recommend a light sprinkle of flaky sea salt, if you have it).

Tips:

  • Select ripe avocados: Choose avocados that are slightly soft when gently pressed. Avoid avocados that are too hard or too mushy.
  • Use good quality bread: Opt for a sturdy bread that can hold up to the toppings without becoming soggy. Sourdough, whole wheat, or multigrain bread are all good options.
  • Spread the avocado evenly: Use a fork or spoon to spread the avocado evenly over the toast. This will help prevent the avocado from falling off when you eat it.
  • Season the avocado: Add a pinch of salt, pepper, and lemon juice to the avocado before spreading it on the toast. This will enhance the flavor of the avocado.
  • Use a variety of toppings: Feel free to get creative with your toppings. Some popular options include tomatoes, onions, eggs, bacon, and cheese. You can also add a drizzle of olive oil or a sprinkle of herbs for extra flavor.
