GRANDMA'S TUNA CASSEROLE WITH POTATO CHIPS AND NO NOODLES

Grandma's Tuna Casserole with Potato Chips and No Noodles image

This is my grandma's recipe. My dad calls it "Toucan Tuna Casserole" because it uses two cans of everything. It is uncommon among tuna casserole recipes because it uses potato chips instead of noodles. Serve with Worcestershire sauce.

Tips:

  • Use canned tuna in oil: The oil adds flavor and richness to the casserole. If you use tuna packed in water, be sure to add some olive oil or butter to the pan before cooking the onion and celery.
  • Don't overcook the tuna: Flake the tuna into small pieces before adding it to the casserole. Overcooked tuna will become tough and dry.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: Adding different vegetables, such as peas, carrots, or corn, will add flavor and texture to the casserole. You can also use frozen vegetables if you don't have any fresh vegetables on hand.
  • Use a creamy sauce: A creamy sauce will help to bind the ingredients together and make the casserole more flavorful. You can use a canned cream of mushroom soup, a white sauce made from scratch, or even a jarred Alfredo sauce.
  • Top the casserole with cheese: A layer of cheese on top of the casserole will add a golden brown crust and make it even more delicious. You can use any type of cheese that you like, but cheddar, Parmesan, and mozzarella are all good choices.

Conclusion:

Poor man's tuna casserole is a classic comfort food dish that is easy to make and budget-friendly. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy. Whether you're looking for a quick weeknight meal or a hearty dish to feed a crowd, poor man's tuna casserole is sure to please.
