This is amazing chili. The recipe came in a newsletter from my heating oil company. I thought I would give it a try because it was super easy. I made it, froze it in individual serving containers & took one for lunch today. I was seriously blown away by how good it is.

Time 8h15m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 18

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 lb ground turkey, 93% lean
6 -8 ounces water
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can low-sodium tomato soup
1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 (8 ounce) can corn, drained
1/2 medium onion, chopped
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon ground cumin
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 pinch ground allspice
salt
8 ounces shredded low-fat cheddar cheese
8 tablespoons nonfat sour cream

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place turkey in the skillet, and cook until evenly brown. Coat the inside of a slow cooker with cooking spray, and scoop turkey in, leaving about 1 tbsp of fat in the skillet. Brown onion in the skillet, 6-8 minutes, then add to slow cooker.
  • Mix in water, tomato soup, tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans and corn. Season with chili powder, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, cumin, black pepper, allspice and salt.
  • Cover, and cook 8 hours on Low or 4 hours on High.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of beans. This will give your chili a more complex flavor and texture. Good choices include kidney beans, black beans, pinto beans, and great northern beans.
  • Don't overcook the beans. They should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Use fresh vegetables. This will give your chili the best flavor. Good choices include onions, peppers, carrots, and celery.
  • Use a good quality chili powder. This is the key ingredient in chili, so make sure you use a good one. Look for a chili powder that is made with 100% chili peppers and has a deep red color.
  • Season to taste. Chili is a versatile dish, so feel free to adjust the seasonings to your liking. Add more chili powder for a spicier chili, or add cumin, oregano, or paprika for a more complex flavor.
  • Let the chili simmer for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings. Good choices include shredded cheese, sour cream, diced avocado, and chopped cilantro.

Conclusion:

Turkey chili is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual party. It is also a great way to use up leftover turkey after Thanksgiving or Christmas. With its simple ingredients and versatile flavor, turkey chili is sure to become a family favorite.
