SALT AND SODIUM FREE TACO SEASONING

SALT AND SODIUM FREE TACO SEASONING image

I'm trying to cut down on salt and sodium. Here is a great taco seasoning I've used that has no salt in it but still has all the flavor.

Categories     Marinades

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 teaspoon(s) chili powder
4 1/2 teaspoon(s) cumin
2 1/2 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
5 teaspoon(s) paprika
3 teaspoon(s) onion powder

Steps:

  • Stir everything together and store in a jar or plastic container. 7 teaspoons of this mixture equals 1.25oz. pkg. of taco seasoning. So, this makes 3 of those packages. I have also purchased those little zip lock bags and put 7teaspoons of this concoction in each of them so I just need to reach for a bag instead of count out 7 teaspoons each time. Then when you're making the taco meat, the water a normal package of seasoning calls for can actually be added to your seasonings right in the bag and then poured out on your hamburger. Less mess!

Tips for Making the Best Salt- and Sodium-Free Taco Seasoning:

  • Use a variety of spices. The more spices you use, the more complex and flavorful your taco seasoning will be. Some good options include chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and cayenne pepper.
  • Adjust the heat level to your liking. If you like things spicy, add more cayenne pepper or chili powder. If you prefer a milder flavor, use less of these spices or omit them altogether.
  • Use fresh ingredients whenever possible. Fresh spices and herbs will give your taco seasoning the best flavor. If you don't have fresh spices on hand, use dried spices instead, but be sure to use half the amount since they are more concentrated.
  • Toast your spices before using them. Toasting spices brings out their flavor and aroma. To toast spices, simply heat them in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Store your taco seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It will keep for up to 6 months.

Conclusion:

Making your own salt- and sodium-free taco seasoning is easy, affordable, and healthy. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and versatile seasoning that can be used on tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and other Mexican dishes. So next time you're craving tacos, skip the store-bought seasoning and make your own instead. You'll be glad you did!
