Tips:
- Choose the right ribs: Country-style ribs are ideal for this recipe as they are meaty and flavorful. Look for ribs that are about 1/2 inch thick and have a good amount of marbling.
- Brown the ribs before slow-cooking: Browning the ribs in a skillet or Dutch oven before slow-cooking helps to develop their flavor and color.
- Use a flavorful braising liquid: The braising liquid adds moisture and flavor to the ribs. Use a combination of broth, beer, or wine, along with herbs, spices, and vegetables.
- Cook the ribs on low heat: Slow-cooking the ribs allows them to become tender and fall off the bone. Cook the ribs for at least 2 hours, or until they are fork-tender.
- Serve the ribs with sauerkraut and apples: Sauerkraut and apples are a classic accompaniment to country-style ribs. The sauerkraut adds a tangy flavor, while the apples add a touch of sweetness.
