SPECIAL K TREATS
A retro-recipe from the 60's. Who knew Special K could be so yummy? My girlfriend Debbie brought these to my 2004 christmas cookie exchange. Her mom made these when she was little. The recipe used to be on the back of Special K boxes. She called her mom for the recipe and luckily, after all these years, she still had it! Thanks Sue!!

SPECIAL K MARSHMALLOW TREATS!
A little grown-up twist on a classic! I added only 1/4 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips and a dash of kosher salt for an incredibly yummy, super simple treat. Melt and mix in a non-stick pan and this is not messy at all, and I had absolutely no sticking problems. Enjoy!

CEREAL TREATS I
This version has no chocolate topping, but it would be easy to melt chocolate chips and spread them over the top. We have a nut allergy in our family and I omit the peanut butter and substitute 1/2 cup of butterscotch chips melted with the margarine instead.

Steps:
- Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with softened butter. Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add marshmallows; cook, stirring, until melted. Remove from heat.
- Stir in cereal and chosen mix-ins to combine. Press into prepared pan; let stand until firm, about 1 hour. Cut into squares and serve, or store in an airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days.
Tips:
- Use fresh marshmallows for the best results. Stale marshmallows will not melt properly and will not be as gooey.
- If you don't have a microwave, you can melt the butter and marshmallows in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.
- Be careful not to overcook the cereal mixture. It should be just slightly golden brown.
- For a more decadent treat, use chocolate chips or peanut butter chips instead of Rice Krispies.
- If you want to make the treats even more special, you can drizzle them with melted chocolate or caramel.
Conclusion:
Special K marshmallow treats are a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is perfect for any occasion. They are also a great way to use up leftover cereal. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a batch of these tasty treats that will be enjoyed by people of all ages.
