SPICY GLAZED PECANS

Categories     Nut     Bake     Thanksgiving

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 scant teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cups pecan halves

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350. Butter heavy large baking sheet. Combine first 4 ingredients in heavy small saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Boil 2 minutes. Add pecans and stir until pecans are coated with mixture, about 1 minute. Transfer to prepared baking sheet, spreading evenly. Bake until just beginning to brown, about 13 minutes. Transfer to cookie sheet lined with waxed paper and separate with fork.

Tips for Making Spicy Glazed Pecans

  • Choose the right pecans. For the best results, use fresh, plump pecans that are free of blemishes. Avoid using pecans that are cracked or have any signs of mold.
  • Toast the pecans before glazing them. Toasting the pecans brings out their flavor and makes them more crispy. You can toast the pecans in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes, or in a skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Use a flavorful glaze. The glaze is what gives the pecans their delicious flavor. You can use a variety of different glazes, but some of our favorites include a mixture of honey, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper, or a mixture of maple syrup, Dijon mustard, and paprika.
  • Be careful not to overcook the pecans. Overcooked pecans will be tough and chewy. Cook the pecans in the glaze for just long enough to coat them evenly, usually about 1-2 minutes.
  • Let the pecans cool completely before serving. This will allow the glaze to set and the pecans to become crispy.

Conclusion

Spicy glazed pecans are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or appetizer. They're perfect for parties, potlucks, or just enjoying at home. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a batch of spicy glazed pecans that your friends and family will love.
