SWEET AND SPICY TUNA SALAD

Sweet and Spicy Tuna Salad image

This is a fresh alternative to the tired tuna salad. A unique, yet pleasant mixture of flavors. Also, you can adjust ingredient amounts for a personalized taste. I like it sweet with a bite. You can also use 1 slice of jack or favorite kind of white cheese to melt on top. Use for a sandwich, with wheat or grain crackers for a snack or a twist for hors d'oeuvres at your cocktail party.

SPICY SEARED AHI TUNA SALAD WITH SESAME GINGER DRESSING

SPICY SEARED AHI TUNA SALAD WITH SESAME GINGER DRESSING image

Categories     Salad     Leafy Green     Fry     Low Carb     Quick & Easy     Dinner     Grill/Barbecue

Yield 2 people

Number Of Ingredients 21

8 ounce wild caught fresh Ahi tuna steak (I used Hawaiian Bigeye, ask your fishmonger for tuna that is suitable to eat raw)
1 Tablespoon black sesame seeds
1 Tablespoon sesame seeds
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
Kosher salt
1 teaspoon canola oil
Salad:
4 cups organic mixed greens (I used a blend of spring greens and baby spinach)
2-3 Tablespoons shelled edamame (optional)
3 Tablespoons diced red bell pepper (optional)
fresh lime (optional)
Dressing/Dipping Sauce (makes 1/2 cup):
1/4 cup plus 1 Tablespoon O Ginger Rice Vinegar (O Yuzu Rice Vinegar would work well, too)
1/4 cup toasted sesame oil
1 1/2 Tablespoons tahini paste (I used Artisana Organic Tahini that I found at Whole Foods, but any tahini paste will work)
1 Tablespoon honey
1 large clove garlic, finely minced
1 teaspoon finely minced fresh ginger (less than a one inch knob)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Sesame Ginger Dressing
Whisk all the dressing/dipping sauce ingredients together until emulsified and well blended.

Steps:

  • Using your hands, coat both sides of the tuna with the sesame seed mixture. Pat and press to be sure it's well coated. Heat non-stick skillet to high and add canola oil to coat bottom of pan. Skillet should be extremely hot, then place sesame-coated tuna in pan and allow to sear for 45 seconds then flip and sear another 45 seconds. Pulling it all together: Mix ingredients for salad (mixed greens, edamame, bell pepper) together and toss with a small amount of dressing. Arrange on plates and top with the sliced tuna. Serve with extra dressing on the side to dip your tuna in.

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 15

4 can(s) tuna in water drained
1 celery stick diced

3 Tbsp sweet pickled relish
2 Tbsp fat free mayo
CHIPOTLE MAYO
1 c fat free mayo
1 lime juiced

lettuce any kind you like or can find.
bread toasted

Steps:

  • 1. Drain your tuna pretty well. Add mayo and mix. Add chopped onions, relish and celery. Peel your pineapple (it has to be fresh. You can use can but it just wont taste the same). Cut the pineapple into rings and take the core out.
  • 2. In a blender add mayo, lemon juice, chipotle peppers, salt and olive oil blend until well combined. Start toasting your bread (you can use any bread you like).
  • 3. To assemble sandwiches all you do is slather bread with the spicy mayo onto both pieces. Add as much tuna as you like. I like to make mine fat. Add a ring of pineapple on top with some lettuce and top with the other piece of bread. Cut the sandwich in half or quarters what ever you like. These are great party foods or finger foods.

SPICY ASIAN TUNA SALAD

Spicy Asian Tuna Salad image

Do yourself a favor and try this fabulous variation on traditional tuna salad. It's good for everyday use on top of a salad with an asian vinagrette and can also be served with crackers at a dinner party. If you like a little crunch in your tuna salad feel free to substitute red onion for the green onion or add some chopped up celery. I created this recipe on a whim for use in my sushi rolls and have it posted under "Spicy Tuna Salad Sushi Roll" with a lot of detailed instructions on how to prepare the rolls.

SPICY TUNA MANGO PASTA SALAD

SPICY TUNA MANGO PASTA SALAD image

Categories     Salad     Pasta     Side     Boil

Yield 30 side dish servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

Mangos (2 large), ripe but still firm
Tuna packed in water (1 large can) or about 1 pound fresh cooked, chilled, and shredded
Small shell pasta (1 pound box)
Low Fat Mayonaise (1 quart)
Green Curry Paste (2 to 4 tablespoons)
Fresh ground black pepper (dash) for color
Grated Parmesan cheese (1 pound) OPTIONAL
Plain Breadcrumbs (4 cups) OPTIONAL

Steps:

  • - Prepare the pasta according to normal directions, drain, cool, and pour into a large mixing bowl. Set aside. - In a smaller mixing bowl, add the Green Curry Paste and pepper to the mayonaise and mix until thoroughly blended. Start with 2 tablespoons and add to your taste. Remember that the tuna, pasta, and mango will offset the bite, so you want it a little spicier than you think it should be. - Add the mayonnaise to the pasta and mix thoroughly. Use a rubber spatula to clean the bowl well. - Cook, cool, and shred the tuna (if preparing fresh) or drain the canned tuna well and shred with a fork. Put the shredded tuna into the small mixing bowl. - Peel and chop the mango into quarter inch dice. You want the mango pieces to be about the same size as the cooked pasta shells. Add the mango to the tuna and mix well. - Add the tuna mango mixture to the pasta, using a wooden spoon or your hands to blend well. - Plate the prepared salad and chill for serving. Add thin slices of mango to the top for garnish if desired. - OPTION Split the salad into casserole dishes lined with breadcrumbs or crumbled saltines, and heat it in a 300F oven topped with shredded parmesan cheese until melted. Do not overheat as the sauce is mayonnaise based and may get oily but the breadcrumbs can only absorb so much liquid.

SPICY TUNA OR SALMON SALAD

SPICY TUNA OR SALMON SALAD image

Categories     Salad     Soup/Stew     Fish     Fry     Sauté     Dinner     Lunch     Salad Dressing

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound very fresh tuna or salmon steak, cut 1-inch thick
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus extra for brushing
1 limes, zest grated
1 teaspoon wasabi powder
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (3 limes)
1 teaspoons soy sauce
5 dashes hot sauce (recommended: Tabasco)
1/2 avocado
1/4 cup minced green onions, white and green parts(2 green onions)
1/8 cup red onion, small diced
salt and pepper to flavor

Steps:

  • Brush the fish with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place the fish in a very hot saute pan and cook for only 1 minute on each side. Set aside on a platter. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the olive oil, salt, pepper, lime zest, wasabi, lime juice, soy sauce and hot sauce. Add the avocados to the vinaigrette. Cut the fish in chunks and place it in a large bowl. Add the green onions and red onion and mix well. Pour the vinaigrette mixture over the fish and carefully mix.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality tuna: Look for sushi-grade tuna or tuna steaks that are fresh and firm. Avoid tuna that is罐裝 or has been previously frozen.
  • Use a sharp knife: A sharp knife will help you get clean, even cuts of tuna. This will make your salad more visually appealing and easier to eat.
  • Don't overmix the salad: Overmixing the salad will make it mushy. Gently fold the ingredients together until they are just combined.
  • Serve the salad immediately: Spicy tuna salad is best served immediately after it is made. The flavors will meld together and the salad will be at its best.

Conclusion:

Spicy tuna salad is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. It is also a great way to use up leftover tuna. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that the whole family will enjoy.
