Time P1D

Yield 30 strawberry shooters, 30 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

30 strawberries, cut and hulled
1 (3 ounce) box of strawberry flavor Jello gelatin (make sure to use Jell-o brand, not a generic brand)
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup cold water
4 ounces tequila, preferablably a white brand
2 ounces Cointreau liqueur (I actually substituted Trader Joe's Margarita Mix here since I didn't have any Cointreau)
sliced lime
sugar (I used sugar, I like my sweets!) or salt, for the rim (I used sugar, I like my sweets!)

Steps:

  • Cut the bottom of the strawberry just enough so it can stand up straight. Make sure you don't cut too far up or else you will create a hole in the bottom of the strawberry, and the jello will seep out. Cut the top of the strawberry straight across, and then hull out the inside using a huller or melon baller. Try not to scoop too far down or you will hit the bottom and create a hole for the jello to seep out.
  • Add the boiling water to the jello packet and stir for 2 minutes to allow sugar to dissolve.
  • Shake the Cointreau and Tequila with ice then add the cold water. Add the cold mixture to the hot mixture and stir well. Using a funnel, slowly pour the jello into the hulled strawberries. Fill all the way to the top.
  • Refrigerate the strawberries overnight.
  • Before serving, rim the top of the strawberries with salt or sugar. You can do this by dipping your finger in water than then lining the top edge of the strawberries lighly in the salt or sugar.
  • Top sith a slice of lime, and enjoy!
  • These shots do contain alcohol so don't forget to drink responsibly. :).

MARGARITA JELLO SHOTS OF THE JELLO MASTERS

Margarita Jello Shots of the Jello Masters image

Inspiration for this shot comes from the Jello Maven himself, Chaz Bosten Baden, and his archive of Jello shot recipes at http://www.boston-baden.com/hazel/Jello/. I have altered it to suit my tastes and used many other shots from his site, having since been named the "Jello Shot Master" by my friends.

I had to make hundreds of Jell-O® shots for a wedding, so I decided to have fun with them and try out some new mixes. This was my margarita-flavored shot, a bit strong but good if you want variety with your selection. If you want them more palatable, substitute water for a bit of the alcohol.

Tips:

  • To make your Jello shots extra special, use fresh strawberries. If you don't have fresh strawberries, you can use frozen strawberries, but be sure to thaw them completely before using.
  • If you don't have a blender, you can mash the strawberries with a fork or potato masher.
  • Be careful not to over-blend the strawberries, or they will become too watery.
  • If you want your Jello shots to be extra boozy, you can add more tequila or triple sec. However, be careful not to add too much alcohol, or your Jello shots will be too strong.
