Categories     Dessert

Time 29m

Yield 4 dozen

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup bakers sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons whole milk
1/2 cup turbinado sugar (raw)

Steps:

  • In a large bowl sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Place butter and sugar in bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and milk and beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl. Divide the dough in half, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, un-wrap the dough and roll it by hand into a log about 1 1/2-inches in diameter. Repeat with the second pack of dough. If dough has warmed during rolling, return it to the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. The dough may even be frozen at this point and thawed when ready to bake.
  • Sprinkle a work surface with half of the turbinado sugar. Roll one of the logs through the pile coating the entire log with as much of the sugar as will adhere. Repeat with the remaining sugar and the second log. Slice each log crosswise into 1/3-inch thick rounds. Place them at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 8 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack. Store in airtight container for up to 1 week.

THE SOFTEST SUGAR COOKIES EVER RECIPE BY TASTY

The Softest Sugar Cookies Ever Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter, granulated sugar, egg, sour cream, vanilla extract, unsalted butter, powdered sugar, milk, food coloring, sprinkles

Provided by Julie Klink

Categories     Desserts

Yield 24 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons milk
food coloring, for decorating
sprinkles, for decorating

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt to combine.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together with an electric hand mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Add the egg and mix until fully incorporated. Add the sour cream and vanilla and mix until creamy. Add the flour mixture, a third at a time, until fully combined.
  • Lightly flour a work surface and turn out the dough. Press the dough together into a disc and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill for 1 hour in the refrigerator.
  • Preheat the oven to 300˚F (150˚C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Remove the plastic wrap from the dough and lightly flour a work surface. Roll out the dough to about ½-inch thick. Cut out circles using a glass or cookie cutter.
  • Transfer the cookies to the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch in between cookies. Bake for 8 minutes, until the cookie bottoms are golden brown and the tops are pale. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
  • Make the frosting: in a large bowl, beat the butter with an electric hand mixer until fluffy. Sift in the powdered sugar and mix until incorporated. Add the milk and continue to beat until the frosting is smooth and velvety. Add food coloring, if desired.
  • Frost the cooled cookies and decorate as you wish.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • To ensure a perfectly smooth and fluffy dough, make sure to properly cream together the softened butter and sugar until the mixture is light and airy.
  • To achieve a more intense vanilla flavor, use a combination of pure vanilla extract and vanilla bean paste or vanilla powder.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before slicing and baking. This will help prevent the cookies from spreading too much and maintain their shape.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the chilled dough evenly. A dull knife can tear the dough and make it difficult to achieve clean slices.
  • Bake the cookies in a preheated oven to ensure that they bake evenly and consistently.
  • Keep an eye on the cookies while they are baking to prevent overbaking. The edges of the cookies should be lightly browned, and the centers should be set but still slightly soft.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting or decorating. This will help prevent the frosting from melting and the cookies from becoming soggy.

Conclusion:

Sugar cookie slices are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed on any occasion. With their simple ingredients and endless variations, they are a favorite among bakers of all skill levels. Whether you prefer classic sugar cookies, funfetti cookies, or even red velvet cookies, there is a sugar cookie slice recipe out there for everyone. So next time you're looking for a sweet and satisfying snack, give sugar cookie slices a try.
