2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 small onion, chopped
21 ounces chicken broth
6 1/2 ounces clams, undrained
2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans cream of potato soup
2 teaspoons pepper
1/2 cup half-and-half

  • Add broth and next 3 ingredients.
  • Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use Fresh Clams: Fresh clams make all the difference in this chowder. If you can, buy them live and shuck them yourself.

  • Add Vegetables: Vegetables add flavor and nutrition to the chowder. Common vegetables used in clam chowder include celery, onions, carrots, and potatoes.
  • Season to Taste: Season the chowder to taste with salt, pepper, and other herbs and spices. Common seasonings used in clam chowder include thyme, bay leaf, and parsley.
  • Serve with Crackers or Bread: Clam chowder is traditionally served with crackers or bread. Oyster crackers are a classic choice, but you can also use saltine crackers, breadsticks, or even a crusty loaf of bread.

Conclusion:

Clam chowder is a delicious and hearty soup that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With its creamy broth, tender clams, and flavorful vegetables, clam chowder is a classic soup that everyone will enjoy.
